Osaka Asian filmfest to show Iranian ‘Talker’

The Osaka Asian filmfest in Japan is to screen Iranian ‘Talker’.

The 2021 Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF) in Japan has been set to screen Iranian short flick ‘Talker’.

The 12-minute film, directed by Mehrshad Ranjbar, will be shown at the Spotlight section of the 16th edition of the Japanese event.

This section of the fest is dedicated to films that are not yet so famous but have the potential to gain popularity as they stand for a new talent or a new movement in filmmaking, according to the official website of the OAFF.

‘Talker’ tells the story of an elderly woman who has taken care of her aged husband until an unexpected event disrupts her life.

Ranjbar has told to the media that what inspired him to make this film was a real story of an old village woman whose only belonging was a sheep which was killed and given away as votive food. When the woman learned that her only herd was gone, she cried her eyes out.

Maryam Nourafkan and Abbas Jalallou are the cast members of the flick.

The film has already taken part at a number of film events and grabbed some awards, including the best student film at the Tirana International filmfest in Albania and the best short feature at the Faludi International filmfest in Hungary.

Launched in 2005, the OAFF aims to introduce Asian films to the world.

This year’s edition of the fest is scheduled for March 5-14, 2021 in Japanese city of Okasa.
